ABSTRACT

On May 17th 2018, Yves Gingras gave a conference on the evolution of science policy in Canada and Quebec. This conference, first presented to the Science Outside the Lab North program participants, approaches Canada and Quebec science policy from a historical standpoint. Gingras tackles important questions such as: in which context did a Canadian science policy first emerge? What were its objectives? How does Canada compare to other industrialized countries? How important was ACFAS for scientific development in Quebec? What role did universities play in technoscientific development? How should we explain the fascination for successive fads, artificial intelligence being the most recent example?
